TRANSFER SWITCH

The most important component of your back-up power generator system is the transfer switch.

There are many different kinds, sizes, and features.

The basic operation of all of them is to separate the utility power from your stand-by generator, so that these two power sources do not run the circuits in your home simultaneously.

An automatic transfer switch is recommended. It monitors the electric utility, determines if a bona-fide power outage is underway, starts the generator, and switches the power lines from the electric utility to the standby generator.
